The goal of the Traffic Bureau is to ensure the safety of the public within our jurisdiction, through education, enforcement and engineering. This is accomplished by maintaining a positive relationship with the community and its members.
The Traffic Bureau is responsible for the management of all traffic and parking-related matters throughout the City of Fullerton. This includes the coordination of all special events sponsored by the City of Fullerton, including the July 4th Festival & Fireworks Show, First Night, the Memorial Day Ceremony, and the Veteran’s Day Parade.
We utilize the philosophy of enforcement through education and engineering. The Traffic Bureau is involved in a variety of community and regional programs promoting the safety of the public during the course of their daily activities. These programs include the identification and deterrence of aggressive driving, DUI enforcement, seat belt education, and traffic safety programs. We work closely with the Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) through specific grant funding which allows the Bureau to conduct DUI checkpoints and DUI Saturation Patrols throughout the year. Through education and enforcement we have seen a dramatic decrease in DUI related accidents and fatalities.
Working side by side with Parks and Recreation, we have continued our commitment to preserve some popular City events. The July 4th Festival, culminating with the fireworks show, draws thousands from our community and the surrounding areas. We have created a tradition of sending out the old year and welcoming the New Year in with a First Night celebration in the Downtown District. This event includes food, music, and a carnival atmosphere dedicated to being a family oriented venue. These events are free to the public.
The Traffic Bureau also participates in community meetings providing expert instructors in the field of Drug Recognition Education, Commercial Vehicle Safety, and Driving Tips. We have made presentations to the local business community, including the Kimberly-Clark Corporation, the Fullerton School District, Boys & Girl Scouts of America, and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD).
The Traffic Bureau coordinates the Crossing Guard Program, the OCTA liaison for taxi cab regulations, tow services, liaison with the Transportation and Circulation Commission, and the Development Coordination Staff Committee for Fullerton.
