The Fullerton Police Department has developed a 10-week program designed to expose participants to the many facets of the Law Enforcement Field. Participants will hear from experts in the Law Enforcement field and gain an overall knowledge of the Fullerton Police Department, how it’s organized, and how it serves the community, as well as learning about what it is like to be a police officer from the men and women behind the badge.

Why Join a Citizen’s Academy?

Today’s Law Enforcement professional is exposed to a variety of tasks and responsibilities. Unfortunately, what is often portrayed in television shows and by the media are not accurate. By becoming a part of a citizen’s academy, participants will see and hear, firsthand, what it is really like to be a member of this proud profession. They will gain a better understanding as to how and why we do what we do.

The course is not meant to train people to become police officers; rather, it is intended to open communication between the community and the department.

Who Can Join?

Participants must meet the following criteria in order to be considered for the Citizen’s Academy:

• Participants must be at least 21,
• Must live, work or attend school in Fullerton,
• May not have any outstanding warrants, pending criminal cases or felony convictions.
• Participants will be fingerprinted and photographed.

When?

Classes run once a year.

Where?

Classes are held at the Fullerton Police Department, located at 237 W. Commonwealth Avenue, in the City of Fullerton.

Individuals requiring special accommodations to participate in the academy are asked to notify PSR Valadez Cruz at the time of registration.
