The City of Fullerton's Park and Recreation Department is looking for recreational contract instructors (independent contractor for the City are not employees) who provides a service to the community in the form of a class, workshop, or camp.
Registration for recreation programs are accepted through the City's website FullertonEConnect. Workshops or classes designed to sell or recommend products from your business are prohibited. We recommend reviewing past issues of our Fullerton Connect to verify that a similar program is not already offered.
Applying to be a recreational contract class instructor:
Step 1: Submit a Contract Instructor Class Proposal
Step 2: Complete an Agreement for Recreational Instructor Services (to be completed only if class is approved)
Fees retained:
- Administrative fee: The City will add a $5 administrative fee to the total price of the offered program. This fee is not paid to the instructor.
- The standard City payment split for contract classes:
- 60% is paid to the instructor / 40% is retained by the city when class is held at a City facility.
- 70% is paid to instructor / 30% is retained by the city when class is held at private facility.
Additional requirements may include:
- Workers' Compensation Insurance: This shall comply with the City’s Insurance requirements set forth in Exhibit B of the agreement for recreational instructor services.
- Live Scan Fingerprinting (background check): All primary instructors and representatives teaching classes offered to participants under the age of 18 years old must agree to a fingerprint submission and background check through the Department of Justice. Individual instructors need to be fingerprinted through City. There is a $57 fee for each live scan.
- W-9: must be submitted for payment processing.
- TB Testing: All primary instructors and representatives teaching classes offered to participants under the age of 18 years old must provide proof that within the last 2 years, they have been examined and have been found free of TB.

Review the current Activity Guide issue of the Fullerton Connect to see if your proposed class is already being offered.
If a similar program is being offered, how is yours different? Can the program curriculum be modified to meet a community need that is currently not being met?
Workshops and classes that sell or recommend products from your business or promote your consulting services are not permitted.
