Tollo is located in the Province of Chieti in the Abruzzo region of Italy about 16 miles from the City of Pescara with sweeping views of the Adriatic Sea to the west and a view of the Maiella Mountain (the second highest peak in Italy) to the east. Tollo is home to about 3,000 people.
The city of Tollo, renowned for its vineyards and olive groves, is also home to the fifth largest vintner in Italy, Cantina Tollo, with internationally renowned brand names such as Colle Secco, and grape varieties such as Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, Trebbiano d'Abruzzo, and Cerasuolo.
Every year Tollo is host to a variety of well-attended religious, athletic, and historical, events throughout the year; drawing regional crowds. Cultural events include the re-enactment of the siege of the Turks, a festival that occurs on the first Sunday in August. Each April, Tollo hosts an 80-mile bicycling competition, one of the "Tour of Italy' qualifying races.
In 2021, Tollo became Fullerton’s Sister City in honor of Tommy Lasorda, a 63-year Fullerton resident and Hall of Famer who managed the Los Angeles Dodgers for 20 seasons and led them to two World Series titles. Lasorda’s father, Sabatino Lasorda, was an Italian immigrant hailing from Tollo who came to the United States and met his wife, Carmella Lasorda. Together they raised Lasorda and his four brothers.
