May 12 - Sept. 9, 2001
This exhibition highlights six decades of jazz music through the photographs of important jazz bassist and photographer Milt "Judge" Hinton and others. The images depict performances, recording sessions, and back-stage interactions, and reveal the ambiance, camaraderie, and rich creativity of the jazz scene.
The exhibition will also explore the evolution of jazz using vintage musical instruments. The distinctive graphics of vintage jazz album covers will also show how these designs helped set a modern personality for jazz during the 1950s and '60s. Vintage musical recordings and rare interviews will further enliven the presentation.
